1. Review of the third installation ceremony

The 3rd Installation Ceremony jointly with the 1st Installation Ceremony of Interact Club of Jawalakhel was discussed. The club members were asked to rate the Installation ceremony. The club members gave it an average rating. The club members hinted that we didn’t have enough time to properly layout the event so it was an “ok” event considering the given time frame.
The members also had a discussion about the club souvenir “Echoes” which was published on the Installation day. It was requested to all the members to collect more articles for the souvenir.

The suggestions were given for the installation ceremony next year. There ought to be more rehearsal of the actual program. There was a requirement of proper time management. More participation from all the members of club was pivotal.

Between the agenda discussion, CP/PP Rtr. Srijan Shrestha explained the Rotaract Movement to the guests. He gave detailed information on the activities and the areas of operation of the Rotaract including a description of the four avenues: Club Service, Community Service, Professional Development and International Service. It was an enlightening discussion. He also discussed about fund raising events for the purpose of financing the Club Activities.

2. Joint Meeting with Rotary Club of Jawalakhel

A joint meeting with the Rotary Club to be held at least twice a year is mandatory. The first meeting with Rotary Club of Jawalakhel for 2008/09 was proposed to be held on August 22, 2008 at the regular venue Shaligram Apartment Hotel at 5:30pm.

3. Fund Raising Dance Party

Fund Raising events are essential for funding various club activities. For fund raising, RCJ has been organizing a dance party. Giving continuation to the tradition, this year also, a fund raising dance party was proposed. The tentative date for the event was 6th September and the tentative venue for the event was Cubes, Kantipath. Rtr. Karun Bhai Bajracharya and Rtr. Situ Shrestha were consigned the coordinators for the event. Rtr. Priyash Pokharel, Rtr. Nima Lama, Rtr. Sarada Bhattachan and Rtr. Smreeti Shrestha were assigned as volunteers to help the event coordinators.

4. Discussion on Club Assembly and Yearly Plans laid out by the Club Officers

The club assembly was supposed to be on the date of meeting no. 58, 9th August. But due to absence of district officials and few club officers, it was postponed until further notice. So, discussions regarding the plans for the year 2008/09 were laid out by the Club Officers present.

The yearly plan layout was given by the president and the four avenue directors. The plans laid out in the different avenues are as follows:
a. Professional Services Avenue
Ø Event Management
Ø Salsa Classes
Ø Effective Public Speaking Training
Ø Entrepreneurship Training
Ø Three Talk Programs
b. Community Service Avenue
Ø Water Distribution
Ø Blood Donation
Ø Health Camp
Apart from the plan layout by the avenue directors, Joint Secretary Rtr. Ashish Shakya also proposed a combo event that would be helpful for Club Service, Community Service and Fund Raising Activity. The event “Hope 2009” will begin with invitations being sent to the Rotaract Clubs around the country. Altogether 12 clubs will be chosen on the first come-first serve basis. The chosen clubs will organize an art workshop/art competition in a government school in their SAP areas. The drawing materials such as crayons, colors, drawing paper will have to be provided by the Club. The theme of the competition will be “Hope”. The best chosen art will be sent to us. We’ll design a calendar for the year 2009 from the art pieces. The design will be sent to the respective clubs. The duty of the clubs then is to search for sponsors for the calendar, publish them and sell them. The clubs can then go back to the school and give prize to the winning students and contribute a certain percentage of the winnings to the school. This event will be twice the Community Service, one Club Service and fund raiser event.

Public Speaking Development Activity

The club has decided that from this meeting, two of the club members will be given five minutes time to speak on any topic of their choice. For this meeting, Rtr. Sandeep Narshing Shakya and Guest Anita Maharjan were given the chance to speak.

Rtr. Sandeep spoke on the job market environment of our country. He recounted his experiences as software developer at the Yomari Incorporated, Jawalakhel. His advice to the new graduates was not to deter from their goals and not to accept any job offer they might get as if they are not happy with what they are doing, they won’t be happy working at the place.

Guest Anita Maharjan spoke about the Rotaract Meeting she was in. She said that the meeting was revealing and full of constructive ideas and that she was looking forward to the next meeting.
